The U.K. Daily Telegraph listed “plan rest days” as one of their three tips for recovery from strenuous exercise.
Basically,
“Exercise makes your body stronger by hurting it first, so planning for recovery is as important as planning the workouts. ‘Everyone is different but a good rule of thumb is three hourlong workouts a week.’ And schedule a down week for your body every eight to 12 weeks.”
(The other two tips included avoiding alcohol and ice baths, which I would rather avoid and go for the alternative: alternating one minute warm shower with 30 second cold shower. Apparently the process flushes waste products from the bloodstream.)
